ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Jean-François Côté for his contributions to its roofing and waterproofing committee (D08).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Côté was recognized for 22 years of outstanding and multi-faceted contributions to the committee’s technical and administrative work, especially subcommittee D08.04, and for his arduous service to keeping its standards current.
An ASTM International member since 2001, Côté has been previously awarded by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (2018) and the Distinguished Leadership Award (2021), along with two Awards of Appreciation from committee D35 (2004, 2006). In addition to ASTM, he is a member of the Ordre des chimistes du Québec (OCQ) and the Bâtiment durable Québec (BDQ).
Côté’s career focus is building science, roofing and waterproofing, thermal insulation, and air barriers. He has been with SOPREMA since 1999, beginning as a research and development chemist, and has held the position of director, standards and scientific affairs since 2016. In 1998, he earned his Ph.D. in energy and materials sciences from INRS - Énergie et Matériaux, part of Université du Québec.
