Rationale

ASTM terminology is used to give a precise understanding of terms used in our standards. We use the term temperature sensor in our standards although it is either not well described or defined. Thermistor, n— is a semiconductor resistor that changes in electrical resistance as temperature changes over a limited temperature range with either a positive or negative temperature coefficient. Discussion—the term is a portmanteau of thermal and resistor.
