Rationale

It is time for the routine review of this Test Method. As a result of that review, there are some changes needed, all related to the use of "sample" rather than "specimen" many places in the test method. To comply with the ASTM Form and Style guidelines on the use of “sample” versus “specimen” in a Test Method, the word “sample” is replaced with the word “specimen” in eight places within the Test Method, specifically once in 3.1, 9.6, and 9.7, two times in 4.2, and three times in 9.5.2. The changes are made only where reference is to that part of the material under test, or to be under test, and not general reference to a sample material from which the specimen is obtained, or portions of the apparatus. The Subcommittee respectfully requests your affirmative vote on this revision ballot.
