ASTM E3181 contains two example calculations for the determination of the converted fractions of starch and cellulosic content - Appendixes X5 and X6. Appendix X5 outlines the calculation of the converted fractions of starch and cellulosic content using the mass of ash, and Appendix X6 outlines the calculation of the converted fractions of starch and cellulosic content using mass balance. Clarifications to the Method should be considered to ensure the mass balance calculation is conducted in a mathematically and stoichiometrically appropriate manner.
